Caramelized French Toast

I'm used to that French toast that came out of a box that you just threw into the toaster while watching the Jetsons.  That was great French Toast, but i like to use pure ingredients in my own version, and i also like to obtain a crispy candy like coating on the exterior.  To achieve this, you'll have to invest in some vanilla sugar.  This French toast is crispy on the outside, and soft, light, and airy on the inside, with great cinnamon flavor.  I like to amp mine up with some grade A maple butter.  Believe it or not, strawberries work really well here to cut through the sweetness and the richness of the sugar and cinnamon.  Truly an addictive treat for anyone who wants to make the real version instead of plugging in that old toaster.
